According the Auto Theft Task Force, Texans suffer almost $1 billion in losses in 2016. July is the month that records the most reports of burglary and theft. Unlocked auto doors, keys in vehicles and property left out in plain sight are most common reasons cited for the high statistics.
The Kennedale Police Department early this year issued the following warning and caution about the summer months and the rise in auto burglary and theft.
The summer brings juveniles with a lot of free time. This is where home owners can play an important role. Nothing good is occurring after midnight on any street in any neighborhood.
- If you see anything that you believe is suspicious please contact police immediately.
- Don’t forget lock up your vehicle, and remove your valuables. Most importantly please do not leave guns in your vehicle.
- Your vehicle is most vulnerable parked in the street, and if you forget to lock it while it’s on the street that triples the chances of the vehicle getting burglarized.
