Vance “VJ” Hughes, Kennedale High School senior guard, was one of just 24 basketball players from across Texas to be nominated for the 2015 McDonald?s United States High School All-American Team earlier this season.
While he was not selected to the team, for the 3-year starter, it was a singular honor, just one of many for him.
On the #13 state-ranked Wildcat team this year, Hughes has averaged 20.6 points per game (team average is 71). {{more}} He a 34% three point shooter with more than 619 total points, averages 7.4 % rebounds and has 103 steals, 59 assists and 23 blocks. (These figures do not include the last three games).
Earlier this season, VJ set a new school record for most points scored in a single game when he made 44 points against the Godley Wildcats, the second place finishers in District 7-4A behind Kennedale.
Last year he was voted Region 1 All-Tournament and District 6-3A 1st Team All-District on a team that went to the final four and finished 38-1. Hughes also made 1st team All-district in 2013 as a sophomore.
