The Kennedale Police Department reported the following incidents for the last week of January. Some of the offenses, after further investigation, may have been deemed unfounded.
Incident Reports
1/29 – Driving While Intoxicated – 900 block of N. Little School Road: At 2:34 a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, a 57 year old male, smelled of an alcoholic beverage but denied having anything to drink. The driver was unable to successfully complete a field sobriety assessment, becoming aggressive toward the officer. The driver was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to jail for booking. The suspect first agreed to give a blood sample but then refused. A warrant was obtained and blood drawn by jail medical staff. The suspect was booked in without incident.
2/1 – Forgery – 1100 block of Colbi Street: At 9:02 a.m. a victim reported to police that person(s) unknown forged a check on his bank account and withdrew several hundred dollars.
2/2 – Possession Drug Paraphernalia – 1200 block of W. Kennedale Parkway: At 12:34 a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled the odor of burned marijuana. When asked about the odor the driver stated that he and a friend had recently smoked in the vehicle but there was nothing in it now. As the driver reached in the glove box for his insurance, the officer observed a marijuana grinder. The officer also observed a dictionary lying in the floorboard that was actually an unlocked lock box containing marijuana pipes and other paraphernalia. The driver was cited and released. The contraband was seized and placed in evidence.
2/4 – Application for Mental Detention & Observation – At 4:49 p.m. officers responded to a report of a group home resident becoming upset and walking away from his caregivers. The subject was located walking several blocks away at Kennedale Parkway and Corry A. Edwards Drive. The subject, known to officers from numerous prior calls, had a piece of steel rebar held to his chest and was threatening to harm himself. Officers were able to calm him down enough to drop the rebar but he again became agitated when talking about why he left the home. He was then handcuffed and transported to JPS Hospital for an emergency mental detention.
2/2 ? Theft $2,500 to $30,000 – 300 block of S. New Hope Road: A victim reported to police that her 2013 model travel trailer was stolen. The trailer was parked in the rear of her property behind her home. The trailer was valued at $27,000.00.
