A Purple Heart recipient got a home makeover thanks to Home Depot last week. Army veteran Tracy Stephens, age 93 from Kennedale, served in the US Army Infantry in Europe during WWII. {{more: continue …}}
According to his daughter, Jill Stephens, her father, was shot in combat under the arm. The wound ended up saving his life as the rest of his patrol that continued were shot and all were killed.
After Home Depot heard that Stephens, who uses a wheel chair was in need of assistance to make his house more accessible. Carlos Miranda from Home Depot helped organize the effort. It is part of an overall effort to say thank you to our veterans.
On Thursday, November 2, employees from Home Depot redid plumbing and helped widen passage ways. They also replaced the home?s gutters and sliding, trimmed the trees, cleaned up the yard and planted some new flowers.
Stephens said ?I think that it was one of the best things that could have happened.? He went on to add, ?Everybody needs to be in a home.?
?I really appreciate ya?ll coming out here,? Stephens told the group before they left.
