Library holds special movie screening/book discussion this Saturday

The Kennedale Public Library will hold a screening of Billy Lynn?s Halftime Walk based on a book by the same name and written by Ben Fountain. {{more: continue …}}
 
The book has been described as ?A razor-sharp satire set in Texas during America’s war in Iraq, it explores the gaping national disconnect between the war at home and the war abroad.?
 

Ben Fountain?s debut novel follows the surviving members of the heroic Bravo Squad through one exhausting stop in their media-intensive “Victory Tour” at Texas Stadium.

 
As Veterans Day comes this is a reminder that there are many veterans that have only recently fought and returned home still carrying the load with them.
 
The movie screening and discussion is one of the activities at the library that especially for adults (18+).
 
The book was the Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction and a finalist for the National Book Award.
 
Amanda King, Kennedale Library Director, has posted that the Texas State Library and Archives Commission’s (TSLAC) Read Across Texas program has encouraged communities to engage in tough but important conversations about what happens when veterans come home. Libraries across Texas, including Kennedale, are participating in this inaugural effort.

This event is free and open to the general public. You do not have to have read the book. Hopefully, this will encourage you to do so at some point.
