Kennedale seize victory thanks to late double, drop Iowa Park 6-2

?Kennedale Lady Kats Varsity and Iowa Park exchanged the lead five times on Friday, but Kennedale ended up on top with a 6-2 win in seven innings over Iowa Park in a regional quarterfinal playoff game.

Allie Turner struck out 11, paving the way for a Kennedale Lady Kats Varsity win. Turner allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings. {{more}}

Cheyenne Trotter was hot from the plate for Kennedale Lady Kats Varsity. Cheyenne went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs.

Kennedale jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Cheyenne Trotter singled to ignite Kennedale’s offense. A groundout by Carson Whatley then moved Cheyenne from first to second. Maegan Garza reached on a hard grounder, ruled an error on 2nd, and Trotter scored.

The score stayed 1-0 until the top of the 4th when Iowa Park scored one run to tie. In the fifth, Iowa Park scored another to take the lead 2-0. But, the 6th belong to the Kats.

It started with a walk by Allie Turner, a single by Elizabeth Schiele and then a line drive single by Jazlyn Crowder, scoring Turner. Cheyenne comes to bat hitting a double and scoring Schiele. Whatley follows with a double of her own scoring Crowder. Ciara Trotter hits a single bringing in Cheyenne. After a couple of outs, Aubrey Wooden singles followed by a double by Mackensie Bay bringing in the last run when Ciara trots across.

The five run 6th was all the Lady Kats needed as Turner put away the next three batters for Iowa Park.

The Kats will face off against Iowa Park Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. in game 2. If game 3 is needed it will be played 30 minutes later. Games are in Bowie at Bowie High School.
