The Kennedale Lady Kats (16-16, 9-0) remain undefeated at the midpoint of the second round of district play. Since the second round began on January 16, the Kats have been on the road and defeated Springtown, Benbrook and Mineral Wells. {{more: continue …}}There are just three games remaining before the playoffs begin.

Friday night Kennedale will play Castleberry at home followed by Diamond Hill at Diamond Hill. Then after a bye on Friday, February 2, the Lady Kats will take on Lake Worth at home. It will be Senior Night. Varsity games are played at 6:30 p.m.

Jan 16 Springtown: 80-52 (W)
  • Kennedale began their three game road trip against Springtown who started out hot but couldn?t keep up with the Kats. After Q1 it was 24-20 Kennedale. The first half ended with Kennedale on top 44-30. In the third, the Kats outscored Springtown 21-8 for a score of 65-38 and then coasted in for the 80-52 win.
  • Sydnee Biscoe hit 6 three?s on the way to a game high 25 points, making three in the 1st quarter alone. Tawny Smith-Knox had 19 points followed by Aariyah Cotto with 14. Other Lady Kats scoring were Mac Briscoe 9, Trinitee Warren 7, Mylo Austin 4 and Taija Jackson 2.

Jan 19 Benbrook: 67-42 (W)?

  • Although Benbrook is currently in 3rd place, the Lady Bobcats struggled against the visiting Kats falling behind 18-8 in Q1. It was 38-20 at halftime in Kennedale?s favor with Kalyne Daniels scoring 11 of the Kats first half points. The pace slowed in the 3rd but Kennedale remained on top at 48-28 before the game ended in the Lady Kats favor at 67-42. Nine out of 10 Lady Kats scored in the game.
  • Daniels finished the game with 14 points followed by Lady Kats Trinitee Warren 13, Tawny Smith-Knox 13, Sydnee Biscoe 9, Aariyah Cotto 6, Cyan Saffore 5, Taija Jackson 4, Mac Briscoe 3 and Mylo Austin 1.
Jan 23 Mineral Wells: 83-78 (W) Overtime
  • It was a battle for the top spot in District 7-4A. Kennedale won the first match-up 88-79 at home but this was at Mineral Wells and the Lady Rams had gone 9-1 since then, losing only a non-district game during that run.
  • The first half belong to Kennedale as the Lady Kats jumped out to a 27-17 lead after one quarter. The Kats increased their lead to 15 by halftime 49-34. But the Lady Rams took charge in the 3rd cutting 13 points off Kennedale?s going on a 24-11 run to make the score 60-58. Then in the 4th Mineral Wells tied it up in regulation play at 75.
  • In overtime play, Kennedale outscored the Rams 8-3 to win 83-75.
  • It was hard fought throughout. Three Lady Kats fouled out – Mylo Austin, Kalyne Daniels and Trinitee Warren. In overtime, 6 of Kennedale?s 8 points came from free throws. Kennedale ended with 29 fouls to 23 for Mineral Wells. MW had two players to foul out.
  • Kennedale had 4 players scoring in double figures: Tawny Smith-Knox 19, Kalyne Daniels 19, Aariyah Cotto 15 and Sydnee Biscoe 15. Also scoring for the Lady Kats were Mylo Austin 3, Mac Briscoe 4 and Trinitee Warren 3. Kennedale did hit 8 three?s in the game ? 3 each from Smith-Knox and Biscoe.
