LadyKats Softball slams Alvarado in first district game

Tuesday night the Kennedale LadyKats opened district play with a no-hitter by Allie Turner, destroying the Alvarado Indians 10-0 in five innings. The LadyKats will play again Saturday in a non-district contest vs Gainesville at KHS beginning at 1 p.m. {{more}}
 
In the Alvarado game, Turner struck out 13 batters and walked three. She also helped her cause with three RBIs off a triple and a single.
 
Kennedale (10-1) took the lead in the first after Mary Grace Howard hit a single followed by Jazlyn Crowder, who reached base after she was hit on a pitch. Both LadyKats scored two plays later on a pass ball.
 
The Kats picked it up in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring 5 times off of an RBI single by Turner, a two-run double by Howard, an RBI double by Crowder, and an RBI single by Rebekah Abair.
 
Kennedale put a little icing on the game with one run in the 3rd when Alexa Nifert reached with a single and then later scored on a Turner ground out. The Kats added two more in the 5th, capping the game at 10. In the inning, Jamie Franks with a line drive single, scored Ashley McElvaney, who had reached on an error. Turner drove in Franks on a triple, ending the game on the 10 run rule.
 
Alvarado had a chance in the top of the 4th when they had bases loaded but they had two outs and Turner struck out the last batter in 4 pitches. Alvarado tried again in the 5th with bases loaded with 1 out. Turner stop the rally with two strike outs in 7 pitches.
 
The LadyKats are scheduled to play a non-district game Saturday against Gainesville at home beginning at 1 p.m. They return to district play on Tuesday evening with a game against FtW Diamond Hill with the varsity game scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
