HAMMOND ? Southeastern Louisiana freshman catcher Lacey Fritz, junior third baseman Megan Moore and sophomore designated player Amber Sather all homered as the Lady Lion softball team rolled to an 11-5 win over Incarnate Word in the opening game of a Southland Conference series Friday night at North Oak Park. {{more}}
Southeastern (11-17, 4-9 Southland) scored 10 runs in the first two innings to cruise to a dominant victory. Incarnate Word fell to 14-19 overall and 3-4 in league action.
Sather was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in, while Fritz drove in four and Moore had three RBI of her own. Sophomore outfielder Katie Lacour and senior second baseman Megan McCollum had two hits apiece for the Lady Lions.
In the circle, junior Spencer Adkinson (2-3) earned the win after allowing seven hits in four innings of work. Southeastern sophomore Taylor Bishop threw three scoreless innings to earn her second save of the season.
Southeastern jumped all over UIW junior starter Brooke DuBois (4-9) in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. The inning’s first run scored on a McCollum single and an error by UIW. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Sather ripped a single to left to put the Lady Lions up, 2-0.
Moore drew a bases loaded walk to force in a third run. On the next pitch, Fritz launched a grand slam over the centerfield fence to clear the bases. The Cartersville, Ga. native’s fourth home run of the season gave Southeastern a commanding 7-0 lead.
Southeastern continued to pour it on in the bottom of the second inning. Senior outfielder Jessie Browne led off the inning with a single, then scored one out later when Sather doubled off the right centerfield fence. Moore followed with her team-high sixth home run of the season to give the Lady Lions a 10-0 lead.
UIW would get on the board in the top of the fourth inning, as a three run home run by freshman third baseman Christy Trevino highlighted a four-run frame. The Cardinals chased Adkinson from the game in the top of the fifth inning, but Bishop would not allow UIW get any closer than 10-5.
Sather closed out the scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Kennedale, Texas native led off the frame with her third home run of the season ? a line shot over the left-centerfield fence that provided the final 11-5 margin.
