The Kennedale Wildcats (15-6-1, 4-1) ended the first round of district play with a 4-1 decision over the Springtown Porcupines (9-11-1, 2-3) Friday night at KHS Paul Trantham Field.
The #17 ranked Wildcats were led by the pitching of Austin Eggleston allowing 1 run on 3 hits over seven innings of play. {{more}}
Josh Taylor went 3 for 3 including a triple and 2 RBI?s. Jake Michener was 2 for 3 with a double and single and scored twice.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd when Shane O?Connor led off with a single followed by a walk by Tyler Perez and a double by Michener, scoring O?Connor. After Perez was throw out at the plate, Michener scored on a single by Taylor.
Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the 5th scored again. First up, T J Aguilar, reached on an error. Michener then drove Aguilar to third with a single. Aguilar stole home followed by a Taylor triple which scored Michener. The 5th ended with the Cats on top 4-0.
Springtown tried to rally with one out in the top of the 6th when the second batter (White) was hit by a wayward Eggleston pitch. The third batter (Rector) reached on an error moving White to second. Then Springtown?s Mauldin hit a single to left field driving in White. With runners at 1st and 3rd and one out, Kennedale put a stop to the Porcupines catching Mauldin stealing second and Eggleston striking out the next batter.
In the top of the 7th with 1 on and 2 outs, Springtown?s last hope was dashed when the Porcupines? fourth batter grounded out to 2B (Connor, Taylor).Kennedale starts round two Tuesday at Jet Teague Ballpark against Diamond Hill. Kennedale is currently in a three way tie with Mineral Wells and Castleberry for first place in District 6-3A at 4-1. Game time is 8 p.m.
