After taking two straight against Bridgeport last week to win a first round playoff victory, the Kennedale Wildcats will open an area-round series against Abilene Wylie this week. Game 1 is 5 p.m. Friday at Wylie. Game 2 is Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Kennedale. If necessary, a third game will be played 30 minutes after Game 2. {{more}}
The series? winner advances to play either No. 1 Iowa Park (22-0-2) or Alvarado (9-12) in the third round quarterfinals next week.
Last week Kennedale outscored Bridgeport 17-6 but this week they run up against the 8th ranked Abilene Wylie Bulldogs who smashed Wichita Falls Hirschi 14-0 in a one game series.
Wylie will be counting on a home field advantage in hopes of taking a first game victory Friday back to Kennedale for a possible two game series on the Wildcats’ home territory. But Kennedale has plans to keep their current playoff win streak going.
District 7-4A playoff record in first round action is 3-1. Besides Kennedale advancing, two other teams made the cut. Venus was a winner over Springtown and will play Stephenville this week. Alvarado was a 4-0 winner over Mineral Wells and will play #1 Iowa Park. Godley was the only district team to lose, but in a close one, to Decatur 10-9.
