The Kennedale Wildcat basketball team was picked to win District 7-4A this year and so far they are following the script with a 3-0 record and a 14-10 season record. The Cats also broke in to the dfwVarsity All-Area rankings at #9 this week. {{more:Read more …}}

District play …
 
The Texas Association Basketball Coaches (TABC) selected Kennedale for the top spot in 7-4A followed by #2 Mineral Wells, #3 Castleberry and #4 Springtown. Other teams in the district include Diamond Hill-Jarvis, FTW Benbrook and Lake Worth.
 
Todate, Kennedale has defeated Mineral Wells 81-66, Castleberry 72-52 and Diamond Hill 85-39. Up next is Lake Worth on Tuesday, January 13 at Lake Worth. District teams will play each other twice with the last game for the Wildcats scheduled for February 14.
Tre Jones dominated in the

last two district games scoring 28 and 32 points (Photo Hudl)

Center Tre Jones (Soph) had two big games last week with 28 points against Castleberry and 31 versus Diamond Hill. He has been nominated for one of the dfwVarsity Player of the Week for his performance. Junior Uniikye Washington (Guard) scored 18 points and 21 points respectively. Also scoring for the Wildcats were {{t2:Alex Groff (Sr): }} 12 pts, {{t2:Tai Davis (Jr): }} 10 pts, }} 9 pts, {{t2:Bryce Hackett (Jr): }} 9 pts, {{t2:Godfrey Agogo (Sr): }} 6 pts, {{t2:Stephone Jackson (Jr): }} 6 pts, {{t2:Trey Poe(So): }} 5 pts and {{t2:Dylon Barber (Sr): }} 2 pts.

Whataburger Tournament …

Kennedale went 2-2 in the Whataburger tournament losing out

in the consolation championship. Playing

all state ranked teams, the Wildcats dropped their opener to #9 4A Decatur

65-46, coming back to defeat then #4 3A Wall 58-48 and now #4 3A Jarrell. Fighting back into the finals, Kennedale

faced #22 3A Central Heights and losing in the last minute after tying the game

when CH scored back to back three?s and went on to win 68-62.

Top scorer in the tournament for the Cats was Uniikye

Washington (Jr) with 61 total points (15.2 av per gm). Tre Jones (So) had 46 followed by

Kennedale has moved to 38th place out of 184 4A teams listed by MaxPreps. This is up 34 places from the last rankings.
 
Chris Saulsby (Sr) should be back in action after suffering an ankle injury during the Whataburger Tournament. He missed the last three games.
 
Kennedale has a bye on Tuesday and will be back in action Friday night against Lake Worth with the varsity game scheduled for 8 p.m.
