Suspect caught in chase that caused school lockdown

Yesterday the Kennedale Junior High and Fellowship Academy in Kennedale were on lockdown for several hours. The precautionary lockdown was due to a police hunt for a possible armed suspect in the area immediate to the two campuses. {{more:Read more …}}
 
The suspect, a juvenile, was apprehended last night at 9 p.m. according to the Arlington Police Department. No details were given in the arrest.
 

The incident began earlier Wednesday afternoon when the Arlington Police Department began pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The chase ended near Bowman Springs Road and Treepoint Drive in Kennedale.

 
Four people exited the stopped vehicle and three were quickly apprehended but the fourth got away on foot. Several news reports said that the Arlington Police were concerned because an empty gun magazine was found in the car and the location was just down the road from the two schools.
 

According to Kennedale Police Chief {{t2:Tommy Williams: }}, it was an Arlington case and their department was handling the incident. However, when it became a foot pursuit with a possible armed suspect, the Kennedale PD was called to assist. At the same time, Kennedale PD placed the two schools on lockdown.

 
Williams said the surrounding area was thoroughly searched and cleared before the schools were opened back up.
