The Kennedale Lady Kats did their job last week when it defeated Dallas Carter 78-57 and laid claimed the Area championship. Next up are the regional quarterfinals with two #1 seeds facing off, Kennedale vs Sanger, as it should be.
Friday night, the Kars finished off Carter’s push for the area title and did it in strong fashion, though it was a battle. dfwVarsity (Star Telegram) called it this way, “It wasn’t pretty, 82 total foul shots taken by both teams, but Kennedale advances to the Regional Quarterfinals to play the Sanger-Alvarado winner.”
The Kats only got stronger as the game progressed. At the end of the first, the Kats led by 9 (18-7. At the end of 2nd, the Kats were up 15 (37-22). The 3rd found Kennedale up by 23 (62-39), and only in the 4th with the game in hand did the Kats fail to increase their lead but still won by 18 (78-57).
Lady Kat Regan Jackson (JR) led the team with 35 points and scored her 2000th point during the game.
Next up is the #1 seed from District 9/4A, the Sanger Indians (29-4), who are coming off a 67-44 drubbing of Alvarado. Sanger is ranked by TABC as #13 while the Lady Kats are ranked #8.
The Kats made the third round last before losing out to Dallas Pinkston. Kennedale has done it again this year but this time they plan to continue their trip through the state playoffs.
