Jackson signs another pro contract … Kennedale Basketball posted a “Big Shout Out” to former Wildcat standout, Aundre Jackson for signing his second professional contract to play in Luxembourg next season. Jackson was a Kennedale and a Loyola University of Chicago graduate before starting an overseas professional basketball career.
Wildcats in the top four over the last 5 years … According to the Fizz Rankings of top five-year football dynasties in Texas in Class 4A DI were #1 Carthage, #2 LaVega, #3 Argyle followed by #4 Kennedale. Kennedale Football comes in at 49th the inaugural 𝐅𝐢𝐳𝐳 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝟏𝟎𝟎 (2015-2019) to includes all teams and all classifications. #1 was 5A Aledo followed by 4A Carthage. Argyle comes in at #19. 6A Southlake Carroll ranked #47.
Practice begins … Monday (August 3rd) was the first day of sanctioned UIL practice for both volleyball and football. The Lady Kats Volleyball team under returning Head Coach Kelly Carl was a 4A state semifinalist last year and this year are returning all but one starter. The goal this year is a state championship.
The Wildcat football team will open play at home against Decatur on August 28. The next two games are up in the air due to COVID concerns. The Richard Barrett coached team will be defending their district title, something that Barrett has owned for multiple years.
Coffey stays home and is Texas-bound … J.D. Coffey, Kennedale’s 4-star all-state safety chose the Texas Longhorns on June 15, tweeting that he was “1000% COMMITTED.” He had at least offers from 30 colleges and universities across the country.
Coffey told the Dallas Morning News, “It felt like home. I’ve been to Austin a couple of times and I love the city,” Coffey said. “It felt like a unit and I really like the coaches. I had a great bond with them going up there.”
Coffey is ranked as the No. 7 safety in the nation for his class. He’s also the No. 29 best player in the state, according to 247Sports. He’s accounted for 200 tackles and 15 interceptions in three seasons. This will be Coffey’s senior year at Kennedale High School.
