It is Football 101 – stop the opponent from scoring and then score. Kennedale has this down, save for one game against Midlothian Heritage early in the season.

Friday night, during first round UIL playoff action against Kennedale, Brownwood’s high-flying offense became another victim, smashing into the opportunistic Wildcat defense and never recovering.

Brownwood had been averaging 388 total yards per game, 278 yards of that on the ground. The Wildcats shaved off 231 yds of that leaving the Lions with just 158 yards to claim as their own. The Cats also more than halved the running-game numbers by allowing just 133 yds and just over 3 yards-per-carry. Not to mention scoring 2 of Kennedale’s 5 touchdowns.

No team this season except Stephenville  (who is 11-0 and ranked #2 in 4A DI) and now Kennedale, has been able to keep the Brownwood Lions under 300+ yards.  In the Stephenville game, the Yellow Jackets limited Brownwood to 235 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Wildcat offense played its part in the game, claiming the lead after the first quarter’s 7-7 tie and tucking the game away with 30 unanswered points. Kennedale recorded 380 total yards for the evening with most of that on the ground, pounding out 337 yards at 7.2 yards per clip.
