I just don’t want him to ever think he CAN’T!” says proud grandma, Kimmie Davis.

“When he was born the Dr.’s said he would never walk… and he CAN. “ 😀

Rylan Munson has Spina Bifida, a disease that can make life a challenge to say the least.

“He has his days like most kids. But, he has an, “I can’ attitude” and he is positive, funny, has a contagious laugh, he maintains the AB honor roll, he plays the flute in band. Rylan has been in the last two plays done at J.A.A. The most important thing in his life, is family and his friends.”

Rylan went to Move United Jr Nationals in Denver CO for the first time and won 3 gold medals in his  field events. He got to meet the Paralympic gold medalist and the world gold medalist, Daniel Romanchuck, while he was in Denver.

Rylan has attended Kennedale ISD since he was in PreK.                                                  *He is the second disabled student to participate in KISD athletic program. (Correction)

*The first being Kyle Fletcher. Kyle also has Spina Bifida. Kyle tells Kennedale News,  “I am not even sure that I was the first ever disabled athlete, but I don’t know of anyone else in my generation. I played 3 years high school basketball, was a co-captain on the JV team my Jr year and would have played varsity as a senior had I not gotten my leg broke during a football game when I was running headset wires as the Sr. manager on the varsity football team.” Kyle graduated in 1992 and after reading this story contacted the KN saying he would love to meet this young man.

He will be participating in track this coming up year in the 7th grade.                                His favorite sport is wheelchair basketball.

  • Thanks to Rylan’s grandma, Kimmie for sharing his story with us.                               He is certainly an inspiration to us all.
