Four KHS students didn’t skip school to go fishing, they waited for the weekend then they went fishing for the Wildcats.

It was a good day, according to Danny Wilcox, KHS Outdoor Education Instructor, and Team sponsor. He posted that the two teams that make up the Kennedale High School Bass Fishing Team for 2022-23, had another strong tournament at Lake Lewisville this past Saturday.

The team of Brendan Heutzenroeder and Nate Cox weighed in the bass for 6.13 lbs which was good enough for an 11th-place finish. The team of Zeth McGough and Coleton Richardson was right behind with one fish that went 5.7 lbs which allowed them to finish in 14th place.

8th out of 36 teams …

As a team (all four members) Kennedale finished 8th out of the 36 schools that make up the metroplex division of the THSBA (Texas High School Bass Association).

“Some of those schools have 20-plus teams fishing, so I would say the Kennedale kids more than held their own!” said Wilcox.

KHS qualifies for regionals …

Both teams will qualify for the regionals to be held on April 15th at Ray Roberts Reservoir.

The top 40% of teams from the Metroplex, the top 40% from the West Division, and the top 40% from the North Division will all battle it out on Lake Ray Roberts for the opportunity to participate in the State High School Bass Fishing Tournament that will be held on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, along the Texas/Louisiana border, May 20th and 21st.

The top 50% of teams from Ray Roberts will advance to State.

Good luck to both teams at Ray Roberts!
