Kennedale has won Rounds 1, 2, and 3. The Wildcats are playing the Sanger High School Indians in Round 4 (Regional Finals) of the Texas UIL 4A Division 2 playoffs, which will end next week in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

In the Maxpreps Class 4A rankings, updated 2/27/2025, Kennedale is #5. Sanger is #9.

Sanger comes out of District 9/4A, a tough district that can leave a lot of battle scars. #7 Panther Creek won District 9/4A with an overall record of 26-9 while sweeping the district 12-0. #9 Sanger (27-6, 8-4) was second, followed by #22 Aubrey (22-11, 7-5) and #20 Celina (21-15, 6-6) to finish out the top 4 in the district. Other members of District 9/4A are Lake Dallas, Gainesville, and Van Alstyne.

Sanger is the only team out of the district remaining in the 4A playoffs. Aubrey made it to the second round before falling to Kennedale. In the D1 playoffs, Panther Creek fell to #1 Dallas Kimball in the second round. Celina, also in D1, ground into #4 Dallas Carter in the second round. Kimbal and Carter are playing in the regional finals tonight. Note that the rankings used in this article are per MaxPreps.

Sanger has had a resurgence in the past two years after several below-average seasons. In 2022-23, the Indians recorded a 17-18 record. Last year’s Sanger jumped to 22-12, and so far this year, it is 27-6.

Kennedale (30-7) and Sanger (27-6) have not played this year. The last time was in the 21-22 season and then again in 2010-11. Kennedale won both contests. However, this season, the Wildcats and the Indians have had four common opponents.

#22 Aubrey – Kennedale defeated Aubrey in the area-round of the UIL Playoffs 59-48. Sanger beat Aubrey in district play twice, 71-63 and 58-56.

#20 Celina – Kennedale in an early season game lost 78-69. Sanger won in district play 59-52 and 70-53 in a forfeit.

#11 Krum (25-9, 13-1) – Kennedale won 76-72, Sanger won 71-66

Canton (18-17, 6-6) – Kennedale won 68-40, Sanger won 44-36
