? ? ?On Thursday, March 28th at the Performance Arts Center on the campus of Kennedale High, five schools in district 6-3A will present an adaption or scenes from full length plays in a one act format. The high school actresses and actors and their stage crew will display what they have had to work on for several months. Winners will advance to regional competition.?? ? ?At 1 p.m. Springtown High School presents scenes {{more}}from One Flew Over the Cuckoo?s Nest by Dale Wasserman based on the novel by Ken Kesey. The setting is the Day Room in a ward of a State Mental Hospital somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.?? ? ?At 2 p.m. Lake Worth High School presents scenes from Wings by Arthur Kopit. The setting first takes place in the mind of Emily Stilson, and later, various hospital units and a rehabilitation center. The action of the play spans a period of two years.?? ? ?At 3 p.m. Kennedale High School presents scenes from Anatomy of Gray by Jim Leonard, Jr. The setting is Gray, Indiana, in the 1800’s.?? ? ?At 4 p.m. Castleberry High School presents Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare) one-act version by Jerome McDonough. The setting is ?long ago, at Leonato’s Palace.??? ? ?And the last play will be start at 5 p.m. Mineral Wells High School presents scenes from The Imaginary Invalid by Moli?re and adapted by Miles Malleson. The setting is 1674, Paris in a sitting-room in the house of Monsieur Argan.?? ? ?Following a short break the winner and runner-up will be announced.?? ??Doug Parker, KHS Theatre Director and host, is excited about the event but has hosted more than once. He encourages the public to attend. It is a free event but has rules that are strictly enforced. ?The participants have worked hard on their production and get one chance before one judge. The plays are closely timed and it means disqualification if the time limit is exceeded. Stages are designed for quick set-up and take-down and the stage crews are on a time schedule also. It must move like clockwork. Audience rules are also closely followed. The plays are not designed for small children. Electronic devices should be silenced turning the each play. Recording devices, cameras, food, and drink are not allowed inside the auditorium. The use of cameras or recording devices of any type is strictly forbidden and is a violation of international copyright law. And a big blunder is trying to come in late even by a minute. Latecomers will be seated only during the pause between shows. It may seem like a lot of rules but the way Mr. Parker feels, it is common courtesy and showing respect to the students on stage.
