Candidates for change defeated in KISD Board Elections on Saturday but will the election affect the new Board?

In an election that generated sparks and lots of conversation on social media, the results were not.
 
The candidates that were considered as the challengers of the status quo in KISD operations were defeated by large margins in terms of percentages. {{more}}
 

Incumbent board member, Janet Adams in Place 4, won with 60% of the vote over Elisha Woodson, 493-332.

 
In Place 5, Stewart Richardson had 58% of the vote, winning over Dr. Maria Douglas, 473-349 votes.
In the Special Election for Place 7, former board member, John Hunt, won with 60% of the vote over Stephanie Vigil, 480-319 votes.
 
The newly elected board members will not be considered officially elected until the votes are canvassed on May 22 by the KISD Board of Trustees.
 
The current board will meet in regular session on Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the KISD Media Center. The officially swearing-in and reorganization of the school board will occur later. A change in leadership will happen as outgoing KISD Board President, Dr. Mike Walker had chose not to seek re-election to the Board this year.
 
There was a residue of frustration and bitterness that the election brought to the surface on both sides of the issues. There were 40% of those who showed up at the polls who seemed to be voting for a change.
 
Will the election and the surrounding controversies affect future decisions and actions of the new KISD?
 
KISD Board meetings are open to the public and are videotaped. It is easy to become involved or knowlegable on issues faces the school district.
