Grand Champions ? Marching Wildcats bring home the trophy

The Wildcat band over the weekend marched into Princeton, Texas and captured the Grand Champion Trophy as the best in the show. It was the first time for the band to win a non-UIL marching contest.

Each year the band enters several marching contests in preparation for UIL competition. ?Two weeks ago, it was the Midlothian Marching Showcase which feature 5A and 4A plus 3A Kennedale. {{more}}The finals were rained out but preliminary summaries had Kennedale at 9th.

This Friday Kennedale will travel to Glen Rose to participate in the UIL Regional Marching Contest. ??
In the off-year (no state contests for any 3A bands) this will be the final marching competition of the year.

Whatever the results, one of the goals has been met for this year. While the Wildcat band has won #1 rating in UIL competition, it has never won a 1st place in an invitational competition. The goal this year was to bring home the gold trophy in at least one of the two invitations entered this year. Read story

Erol Oktay, Director of Bands sent this message out about win on Saturday:

?What a great day we had on Saturday. I am so proud of the kids and their performance at Princeton. This is the first time in our band’s history to be named “Grand Champion” of an independent marching band festival. The hard work and determination of the kids made this competition one for the record books. On behalf of the students and directors, we send out a big “Thank You!” to all the volunteers who helped to make this day a success. We could not have done it without you.?

There were 30 bands at the contest from 1A’s to 5A’s in a head-to-head competition.

The Wildcat Band was named Best band in class 3A, and the Grand Champion Band of all classes in the Finals performance.

In addition, the band brought home the following Class 3A Awards for: Best Color Guard, Best Marching, and Best Drumline. and for the finals performance, the band won: Best Music, Best Marching, and Best Drumline.?
