Friday night the Kennedale Wildcats (6-4, 5-0) closed out their regular season against the Mineral Wells Rams (1-9, 1-4) by a score of 66-34 at Wildcat Stadium.
Kennedale swept the district with a record of 5-0, giving them a perfect record in District 6-3A for two years in a row. {{more}}
Despite their record the Rams didn?t let the Cats win without a fight. The Rams did put up 360 yards but almost of that was through the air (14-32-2 for 308 yds). Beside the 2 interceptions, the Wildcat defense choked off the run game of Mineral Wells by allowing only 53 yards on 25 carries (2.1 yds per). Chris George (Jr) made one of the two interceptions for Kennedale, running it back 54 yards for Kennedale second score of the third quarter.
Donny Darville (Sr) joined Juwan Washington (Sr) in the thousand yard club by gaining 171 yards on just 12 carries (14.2 yds per) and 2 touchdowns which gives him 1,139 unofficial yards and 16 touchdowns for the season. Darville added to his all-purpose yards (1,197) by catching one pass for 17 yards during the game. In the game Darville had touchdowns runs of 27 yards and 75 yards.
Washinton, being courted by TCU, had his usual 200+ yard game by rushing for 208 yards on 25 carries and 4 touchdowns. He added another through the air. Washington ends the regular season just shy of the 2,000 mark with 1931 yards. Washington had 2353 all-purpose yards going into this game. For the season he has 34 touchdowns (3.4 per game).
Kennedale moves on to the first round of the UIL 3A Division 1 Playoffs, playing Burkburnett (4-6, 1-3). The game will be played at Springtown with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
