Kennedale Junior High School entered 4 teams of students in the North Texas Region of the Future City Competition hosted by the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington, Saturday, January 31, 2014. One of the teams brought home an Excellence Award. {{more}}
Fifty-four teams competed at the North Texas Regional Meet. Kennedale Junior High School was only topped by Pioneer Heritage Middle School in Frisco, Texas, for having the most teams in the competition.

This was Kennedale Junior High School’s first year in the competition.
The Future City Competition allows students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade to imagine, design, and build cities of the future. Students work as a team with an educator and engineer mentor to plan cities using SimCity? software; research and write solutions to an engineering problem; build tabletop scale models with recycled materials; and present their ideas before judges at Regional Competitions in January.

The KJHS team of Kean Chastain-Howley, Olivia Hamm, and Tom Dorosky won an award for Excellence in the Application of Water Recycling. The award was presented by the North Texas Chapter of the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) and included a $150 donation to Kennedale Junior High School. Also, each team member was given a $25 gift card to Target ($75 total).

The KJHS Future City Club was founded by David Boubel, 7th and 8th Grade Math Teacher at KJHS, and parent mentor, Guy Huggins, Director of Enterprise Architecture.

- Team K2 – E. J. Costa (7th Grade), Brandon Isensee (7th Grade) and Brandon Garcia (7th Grade).
- Team K4 – Jimmy Crisp (8th Grade), Tommy Crisp (8th Grade), Slade Hodge (7th Grade) and Luci Williams (6th Grade).
- Team K6 – Kean Chastain-Howley (8th Grade), Tom Dorosky (8th Grade), Olivia Hamm (8th Grade) and Alexis Wheeler (7th Grade).
