Easy wins …

Last week Kennedale had no problems with Springtown and Castleberry, sweeping both in straight sets. Playing at home Tuesday, September 15, the Lady Kats beat 4A Springtown (13-12) by 25-8, 25-12 and 25-20. Then on Friday last week, Kennedale travelled to River Oaks to play the Castleberry Lady Lions (3-12) and came away with an overwhelming win, 25-4, 25-8 and 25-5.

This set up the match with the state ranked Krum Lady Bobcats on Tuesday of this week. Kennedale had to travel to the home court of the #4 ranked Krum team (24-2) to play. This was a hard fought game that went to 5 set with Kennedale winning the first and third (26-24 and 25-23) and Krum winning the second and forth (25-17 and 25-21). In the tie breaker set, Krum pulled out the win by a 15-13 score.

A disappointing loss but…

It was a disappointing loss but it did prove that this team could take sets from a MaxPreps Top Four team on their home court and force the game to 5. For Krum this was the first time all year that they had to play a five set match.

The Kennedale Lady Kats (19-13), who were 11-12 at this time last year, finished as co-champs in District 7-4A along with Godley with a 19-14, 7-1 record.

Head Coach Jennifer Patterson in a post told her team said, “Preseason is now complete. Take the wins and cherish them.

Take the losses and learn from them.”

The Kats will begin district play against newcomer Midlothian Heritage. This is a new high school that opened this fall in Midlothian ISD. The Lady Jaguars, with early success against smaller schools, are currently sporting an 18-6 record.

Game time is set for 4:30 pm at Kennedale High School.
