Every year the Film and Broadcast History Classes at Kennedale

Junior High School make a simple animation toy called a zoetrope out of Blue Bell ice cream tubs. The animation toys that the students create throughout the first couple of weeks of school demonstrate the idea of persistence of vision. {{more}}

 
KJHS teacher Christian Scott described it this way, ?Presistence vision has to do with the fact that when we see pictures in rapid succession with only slight changes to each picture, our eyes can?t process each picture individually, and so it appears as the picture is moving. The students use copies of photographs taken by Edweard Muybridge circa 1886, showing how a horse gallops, to further connect their project with the era they are learning about. But this year, with our beloved Blue Bell Ice Cream off the market, there nearly wasn?t a zoetrope project. ?
 
This is where StanPac came to the rescue.
 
StanPac is a Canadian based company with a facility in Brenham, Texas. It happens that StanPac in Brenham are the ones that make Blue Bell?s ice Cream tubs. When Mr. Scott contacted them and let them know of his dilemma, StanPac saved the day by donating a case of blank ice cream tubs.
 
According to Mr. Scott, ?Not only is this enough tubs for this year, but we will benefit from their donation for the next four years as well, because there are 252 tubs in a case. Even better, because the tubs are blank, it made the project easier to make and the images easier to see while spinning the tub.” He added, “Thank you StanPac!?
