Saturday was election day for local municipalities including Kennedale. Normally this would be the time to vote for school board and city council members but of the five positions open for election the year (2 school board and 3 city council) none drew more than one candidate. {{more:[read more]}}
As a result, elections for those positions were called off and the candidates in those open positions will be sworn in this month as official members of the city council or school board. But, the City held an election on seven proposed amendments to the city charter.

Since there was no excitement of any contested election for office to draw in the voters, the turnout was low – just 153 voters out of 4,586 registerd voters (3.3%). Those who did vote, supported the amendments save one – longer terms for elected officials.
Of the seven charter amendments proposed only one was defeated, Proposition 4 by a vote of 80-71. The proposition would have changed the current two year terms of office for the mayor and city council positions to three year staggered terms of office with two positions up for elections each year.
It would not have affected the terms of office of current elected officials but those running for election next year.
