The Kennedale Lady Kats (17-16-1, 7-3) swept the Mineral Wells Lady Rams (15-13, 3-5) in an area round best of three series this weekend, winning 13-3 on Friday and 10-8 Saturday. It was the Kats? night at the plate as they belted out 11 hits and scored 13 times while recording a single error in this first game of the area playoffs.
Calhoun had the win, allowing 3 earned runs on five hits. She struck out 5 and walked none while facing 20 batters, throwing 62 pitches and recording 44 strikes (.710).
Schiele had 3 RBIs on two hits while scoring 3 runs. Junior {{t2:Jamie Franks:}} had 2 RBIs with one hit and two runs scored and {{t2:Lexi Neifert:

5th inning ? After a shaky 4th, Calhoun got three ground outs and Kennedale then went on a 6 run scoring spree to 10 run the Rams. McElvany started it by reaching on an error. Velasquez?s ground out moved McElvany over, Calhoun singled and McElvany scored on an error. Singles from Webb and Neifert loaded the bases with one out. With a big 3rd the Kats were able to put enough distance between them and Mineral Wells to maintain the lead for the rest of the game despite 11 hits and 8 runs by the Lady Rams and 3 errors by the Kats.
Megan Calhoun got the win after allowing 11 runs on eight hits. She faced 36 batters throwing 69 strikes in 107 pitches with 2 strikeouts.
Alyssa Bradberry helped break open a 2-1 game with a 3 run home run in the top of the third when the Kats scored 6. Elizabeth Schiele, with another big game at the plate, was perfect going 3 for 3, hitting a single, a double and a triple.

1st – After the Kats went three and out, Mineral Wells scored putting up 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning when batters reached on an error on a ground ball to 2B, line drive single to LF and a triple to CF. Kennedale 0-2.
2nd – Kennedale managed a run in the 2nd after Schiele triple to CF and McElvany singled to 2B scoring Schiele. Mineral Wells went 3 and out. Kennedale 1-2
3rd – Kennedale put the Lady Rams in the rearview mirror with 6 runs in the 3rd after Franks reached on error (ground ball SS), a single to 3B by Mary Grace Howard, a double to CF by Schiele, a homerun Bradberry, McElvany walked, Velasquez singled to CF, Calhoun singled to P, Niefert reached on fielder choice (ground ball to SS) and Franks reached on a fielder?s choice (ground ball to 3B).
