KHS Archery seeded 13th starts state tournament today

Last year?s KHS brand new archery competition team qualified for the Texas State Archery Championships, seeded 16 but ended in the top 10 at #7. {{more: READ MORE …}}
This year?s team is headed to the state competition 3 places higher at 13th and with higher aspirations.
 
Today in Belton at the Bell County Expo Center, teams from around the state will shoot for the title of best archers in Texas. This is an open co-ed competition that pits large school against small. Last year Kennedale topped all schools 4A or smaller.
 
to qualify needed 2,550
 
To qualify for the tournament, a high school team had to shoot at least a 2550. Kennedale, as a team this year, has shot a 3319, which is 133 points better than last year’s state finish of 3,188.
 
The state champions were Arlington Martin which had a winning score of 3,384 and Allen followed with 3,319.
 
91 schools are sending teams in three divisions …
 
This year there are at least 91 different schools that have qualified for the state meet with some schools sending multiple teams. In the high school division there were over 700 students entered in the competition last year.
 
The Kennedale Archer team is part of the ACE program at the high school. They meet after school and at lunch time to practice. Equipment is provided through the ACE program and by donations.
