One of the suspects demanded the victims? property while the second suspect began to strike one of the victims with his fist. A wallet and cell phone belonging to one of the victims was taken.

The suspects were described as black males at least six feet tall. One of the suspects was wearing a black hoodie. They left in a silver sport utility vehicle that was parked in a darkened area nearby.

During the initial investigation, the stolen phone was tracked to an apartment complex in southeast Fort Worth. Fort Worth police responded to the area and located a silver Honda CRV that matched the description of the vehicle in the Kennedale robbery. It had been reported as stolen in Fort Worth. A black hoodie was located in the vehicle. The vehicle was processed by crime scene officers and was released to the owner.

Investigators are following up on leads …

This is the second robbery of this type in Kennedale this year. The first was on 06-04-2017 at 6:15 a.m. and was also in a quiet residential neighborhood. Several cars driving together approached an older male victim. A lone black male suspect exited one of the vehicles and displayed a handgun. The suspect did not say anything to the victim but did search him before taking his cell phone. The suspect struck the victim in an unprovoked attack before leaving. The cell phone was tracked by officers and showed to be in Fort Worth off of Sun Valley Drive. A search of the area did not turn up the phone or any of the suspect vehicles. Investigators believed at the time that this may have been a gang initiation.

These offenses were in two different areas of the city and do not appear to be related at this time. Ft. Worth has experienced a number of these types of offenses which may account for the two phones taken from Kennedale being located in that city.

be aware of your surroundings …

The Kennedale Police Department would like to take a moment to encourage all citizens to be aware of their surroundings. While we enjoy a moderately low crime rate, we are not crime free. Protecting yourself can sometimes be as simple as being aware of your surroundings.

When walking, keep your eyes up and looking around as you travel. If you see a car or cars approaching your location and they don?t seem to fit the area or are acting suspicious, turn and walk away.

The same rule applies to a stranger who approaches you on foot and you feel uncomfortable. Don?t hesitate to dial 9-1-1 to ask for an officer to respond to your location the minute you begin to feel threatened.

It is difficult for any police officer to monitor all of the areas of their city all of the time. We welcome the assistance of those we serve to help us protect you. Watch out for yourselves and watch out for your neighbors.
