TarletonSports.com Press release …

STEPHENVILLE (July 12, 2017) ? Misty Wilson filled out her 2017-18 TexAnn Basketball roster with a big splash as the fourth-year head coach announced the addition of former Kennedale High School star McKinley Bostad. {{more: Read More …}}

?I am extremely excited about the addition of McKinley to our TexAnn Family for several reasons. First and foremost, McKinley is an outstanding young lady that will bring leadership and a great example of a student athlete to our younger players,? said Wilson. ?She has a great deal of experience at different levels and is not afraid of hard work on or off the floor.

Bostad, who had a solid first year as a Lady Razorbacks but was later slowed by injury, is ready to show her relentless, passionate style of play for Tarleton

?McKinley is a great basketball player and has found a way to have a positive impact on every team that she has been a part of,? Wilson continued. ?Her ability to knock down shots from the perimeter is second to none and she consistently makes sound decisions on the floor that leads to positive outcomes. Her size allows her to be versatile on the court and creates match up issues for defenders. What impressed me the most when watching film on McKinley is how hard she competes on every possession of every game. She was relentless and that is a key part of our program philosophy. I couldn?t think of a better player to complete our roster with than McKinley.?

Bostad was a star for Kennedale High School, leading the Wildcats to the 3A State Championship game in 2013 alongside former TexAnn Travanti Downes. They had to survive a nail biter against No. 1 Stephenville in the Region I-4A championship final to advance to the state tournament.

Bostad was a junior for the Wildcats and Downes was a senior in the 2013 state tournament. The tandem combined for 31 points, led by Bostad with 19 points on 7-11 shooting from the floor, as Kennedale finished as the state runners-up. In her four-year varsity career, Bostad led Kennedale to the Region 1 finals twice, regional semifinals once, and the state title game in 2013.

At Kennedale, Bostad was an all-district, all-region, and all-state honoree as well as TGCA State All-Tournament selection in 2013. She was ranked No. 21 in the state of Texas and No. 146 in the nation by Premier Basketball Report. She finished her career averaging 22.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in her senior year, when she was also named the 3A Girls 1A-3A Athlete of the Year.

Following her career with the Wildcats, Bostad headed to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete for the University of Arkansas. There she competed in 32 games as a true freshman for the Razorbacks, scoring a season high 15 points against Missouri that earned her SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

She transferred to Texas State after her inaugural season with the Razorbacks and sat out the 2015-16 season before getting on to the floor for 22 games last season, starting 14 games. She averaged 6.5 points per game on 458 shooting from the floor to go along with 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
