The Kennedale Lady Kats have bulldozed through their final three district games, outscoring their opponents 51-11 and securing a playoff berth for the 25th time dating back to the beginning of softball at KHS. {{more: continue …}}

One of the hottest bats belonged to Mikinzie Eubanks who batted 700 and earned 10 RBIs during the three game sweep. Jenna Webb and Megan Calhoun both hit above 600 and combined for 15 RBIs. Over the same 3 games, Lady Kats as a team banged out 5 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs.

Kennedale have finished the regular season with at 12-11 overall with an 8-4 district record. They will be the third seed from District 7-4A coming in behind Mineral Wells and Springtown. This weekend they will play 2nd seed Venus from District 8-4A.?

It was Senior Night last Friday as the Lady Kats hosted Lake Worth, sending them home with a 21-5 walloping while honoring the only two seniors on the team. A week earlier the Kats defeated Castleberry 15-5 and followed that with a 15-1 defeat of Diamond Hill the next day.

Seniors Alyssa Bradberry and Mary Grace Howard were recognized along with their parents. Both Bradberry and Howard have been all-district players since their freshman year. As freshmen they played on a team that finished 23-4 and were Region 1 finalist. In their sophomore year, the Kats finished a surprising 20-18-1 making it the Region 1 semis after being under 500 all season. They are hoping to make a similar run this year.

Friday, April 20 ? Lake Worth (W) 21-5
  • Playing at home, Kennedale fell behind Lake Worth after one inning of play 2-0 when an error scored two runs for the Lady Frogs. However, Kennedale came roaring back in the 3rd, hammering the ball and putting 13 Lady Kats across the plate.
  • Lake Worth scored 1 in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th while Kennedale went on to score 1 more in the 3rd and 7 in the 4th to wrap up the game in 4 innings of play with 21 runs on 12 hits and 6 errors. Lake Worth scored 5 without a hit and committed 3 errors.
  • Megan Calhoun got the win going 4 innings throwing 54 strikes in 95 pitches (.568), facing 22 batters, striking out 7, walking 4 with no hits.
  • Seven Kats had hits. Kennedale also garnered 11 walks in the game. Jenna Webb was perfect at the plate going 4-4 with 5 RBIs including a double, a walk and 2 runs scored. Mikinzie Eubanks was 3-3 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs. Megan Calhoun was 1-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Alyssa Bradberry was 1-2 with 1 RBI, 2 walks and 3 runs. Allie Hopper earned an RBI walking 4 times and scoring twice. Mary Grace Howard was 1-3 with a walk and 3 runs. Alyssa Phillips walked twice getting an RBI and scored twice. Saturday, April 20 ? Diamond Hill (W) 15-1

  • Tied at 1 after the first inning of play, the Lady Kats held Diamond Hill scoreless the rest of the game while the Kats went on to scored 4 in the 2nd, 4 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th and then wrapped up the game with 5 in the 5th.
  • For Kennedale, it was 15 runs on 12 hits with no errors. Diamond Hill finished the game with one run on one hit and 6 errors.
  • As starter, Megan Calhoun?went one inning, allowing one run on one hit. Allie Hopper in relief went 4 innings, allowing no runs, no hits while facing 13 batters, throwing 31 strikes in 44 pitches, striking out 3 and walking one.
  • Three Lady Kats had multiple base hits with a triple by Mikinzie Eubanks (2-3, 2 RBIs, walk & 1 run scored), a double by Hope Regalado (1-3, 2 RBIs, 2 walks and 1 run scored) and a double by Jenna Webb (2-4, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored).

Friday, April 13 ? Castleberry (W) 15-5

  • In this Friday 13th game, there were no surprises as Kennedale scored 7 runs in the first two innings to establish a lead that they never surrendered, adding 4 in the 4th and 2 each in the 5th and 6th innings to win in 6 innings 15-5.
  • Castleberry did mount a challenge in the second and third innings by scoring 5 runs to close the gap to just 2 at 7-5. But the Lady Kats shut down the Lady Lions the rest of the game.
  • Castleberry finished the game with 5 runs on 5 hits and committed 5 errors. Kennedale had 15 runs on 14 hits while committing 4 errors.
  • Megan Calhoun went 1.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 walks with no hits and 2 strikeouts. Allie Hopper in relief for 4.2 innings, threw 57 strikes in 77 pitches, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while getting 6 strikeouts.?
  • Megan Calhoun and Mary Grace Howard teamed up for 5 extra base hits included a homerun each. Howard added 2 triples while Calhoun added a double. Howard finished 3-4 with 3 RBIs, a walk and 3 runs scored. Calhoun was 2-3 with 3 RBIs, a walk and three runs scored.
