The Lone Star Cup race has drawn to close with the announcement today from the Texas UIL of the official results for the 2016-17 school year. {{more: Read More …}}
 
Kennedale is once again one of those atop the leader board at #4.
 
Eight time winner, Argyle, is in 1st place, followed by Abilene Wylie and Liberty Hill with Kennedale in #4 and Boerne rounding out the top 5.
 
A top 10 finish among all 4A schools is quite an honor. For Kennedale this will be the fifth straight year to finish in the top four in its classification and the 6th time in seven years. In 2016, Kennedale came in at #3 behind Argyle and Abilene Wylie. It was first recognized in the top Ten in 2011 when the high school crash the party at #4.
 
In 2013 Kennedale reentered the top ten when is earned its highest place at #2 behind Argyle. Kennedale finished at #4 in the next two years before finishing last year (2016) at #3.
 
This will be the sixth straight title for Argyle. The rest of the top 10 include #6 Andrews, #7 Fredericksburg, #8 Stephenville, #9 Texarkana Pleasant Grove and #10 Wimberly
 
What is the Lone Star Cup …
 
This annual program recognizes six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A), based on their overall team achievement in the following sanctioned UIL Athletic/Academic championships for the Cup honors.
 

UIL activities, both academic and athletic, are considered in the rankings. The finishes include state and area marching band, team tennis, cross country, volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track & field, swimming, wrestling, one act play and the state academic meet.

 
Points are earned in three different ways – from team sports, individual sports and non-athletic competitions such as marching band, one-act play and the state academic meet.
