Kennedale High qualified four for the state competition after they finished in the top two at regional competition two weeks ago.? At the state meet all four placed 8th or higher in their respective weight class with the highest finish being 4th in the state.

With only the top 4 finishes from each weight class earning points toward the team totals, Kennedale finished out of the top competitors. Crystal City walked away with the team trophy this year. They were followed by Snyder, Devine and Kingsville King.?

Senior Ricardo Pena was the only lifter from last year?s team to return to the state meet. He improved his last total lift by 125 lbs from 1425 to 1550 which was a personal best for him last year.

Kennedale has a strong history in weightlifting, having won 3 state titles in the boys division and having one of the very few lifters in the state to win individual titles three years in a row in the same weight class, Justin Lindsay, a 2017 graduate. He set and still holds the state record in the 114 weight class in the Squat at 425lbs and Total lift at 1025lbs.??On the girls? side, this year?Erylna Morgan won an individual state title in her class this year.
?KHS has had a couple of athletes win back to back titles besides. Lance Canter did it in 2005 and 2006 and T.J. Sabando in 2007 and 2008.?
