Every year about this time in the heat of the summer, KISD Director of Bands, Erol Oktay calls in the ?band?. Jobs are quit, schedules rearranged, vacations end and mornings in bed become a dream.

If you are a member of the KHS Wildcat Band, it is the call that begins the new year. {{more}}This is the year 4A bands can compete for state competition in Austin, a place the Kennedale Wildcat Band knows well with plans to return this year. For several years the KHS Wildcats have finished in the top 12 for 4A (last year?s 3A) programs.

First up is ?Rookie Camp?. This includes all incoming 9th grade students and any student who wants to try out for the elite marching band.

ROOKIE CAMP is a three day mini camp, July 28, 29, 30 (Mon, Tues, Wed) 7:00 am to 2:00 pm with a sixty minute break at 10:30 each day. The camp is required for all new students including incoming freshmen with the exception of freshmen involved in the Drumline or Color Guard camps.

The “rookies” will be instructed in basic marching fundamentals, terminology and music performance for the Wildcat Marching Band. All drum majors and squad leaders will be attending. Absences (excused or unexcused) from summer band can affect a student?s placement in the program and marching show. Any conflicts have to be cleared in advance with a parent conference with the band director. (Contact the band office at 817-563-8035).

WILDCAT MARCHING BAND CAMP begins on July 31 and August 1 and runs from 7 am to 2 pm with a 60 minute break at 10:30 daily. Attendance is required for all band members. This will be the start of full marching band rehearsals which includes music rehearsals for the 2014 marching show called Arctic Majesty (
