Basketball teams in playoff action, LadyKats face old foe tonight

Every year about this time, mostly a game or two later, the Kennedale LadyKats face off against Abilene Wylie, a perennial playoff team and always a battle for the Kats. The two teams play similar ball – aggressive and quick. {{more}}
 
Tonight, the two teams play an early playoff match with the winner a sure bet for the region tournament in Lubbock. The area playoff game is being played at Eastland High School in Eastland beginning at 7:30 p.m.
 
#13 Kennedale (26-9, 7-2) who has been playing without its number one player, Jasmyn Poe, is playing the #2 team in the state (TABC) the Wylie Lady Bulldogs (27-5, 8-0).
 

The young Kennedale team is considered the underdog in this game and will have to play the role of the giant killer to make it on to the next round.

 
Kennedale is coming off of a bi-district win over Springtown 85-59 and Wylie is coasting in on a 71-15 beat-down of Wichita Hirschi.
 
For the LadyKats the tune-up game against Springtown was never in doubt. Kennedale came out of the dressing room scoring and led 20-9 after the first and 47-28 at halftime.
 
Evie Whorley led the LadyKats in scoring with 18 followed by Brenee Ellis with 17, Kathryn Mosely 15, Amanda Davis 14, Payton Williams 9, Dajia Simmons 8, Robbie Johnson 2, Jasmine Alli 1 and Lucy Benson 1.
 
 
Wildcats have not lost a district game in three years.
 
The Wildcats after sweeping district play once again will play Lake Worth in first round action of the UIL boys basketball tournament, Monday, February 23 at Brewer High School in White Settlement. Game time is 7 p.m.
 
This is a bi-district match up between the first place Kenndale Wildcats (26-6, 8-0) from District 7-4A and the forth place Lake Worth Bullfrogs (10-20, 3-7) from District 8-4A.
