The KCTP has selected ?Bye Birdie? for its next stage production. “Bye Bye Birdie” is a stage musical with a book by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams and music by Charles Strouse.

Musical inspired by the draft of a rock and roll legend …

The show is set in 1958. The story was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957.

The rock star character’s name in the musical, “Conrad Birdie”, is a word play on the name of Conway Twitty. Twitty is best remembered today for his long career as a country music star, but in the late 1950s, he was one of Presley’s rock ‘n’ roll rivals. (Source Wikipedia)

Local educators started the outdoor theatre group ?

The community theatre was started in 2017 by a group of educators from KISD. Their first production was ?Music Man, Jr? followed by ?Closed for the Holidays.? Last spring the production was Seussical, Jr.

Production numbers are designed to include opportunities to showcase local talent both old and young, experienced and not.
?
The unique part of their productions is that the performances are outside, under the trees at Kennedale Town Center Park in the heart of Kennedale.

Relies on the generousity of others …?

The Kennedale Arts and Cultural Foundation has provided support but donations are also a significant source of support. This past October, the community theatre organized a talent competition billed as ?Kennedale?s Got Talent? as a fund raiser.
