The #14 Kennedale Wildcats (8-3) are now bi-district champs after a 63-0 win over Wilmer-Hutchins (4-7) Friday night at Cedar Hill High School. {{more:Read more …}}
 
It was as a complete and thorough win as the score indicated. Kennedale scored on nine of 11 possessions, fumbling on one and running out the clock on their 11th and last possession.

Overall, Kennedale had 465 of total offense while the Cats defense limited Wilmer-Hutchins to just 96 total yards with 80 through the air and 16 yards on the ground at .06 average per carry.
 
DJ Kirven (So) scored 6 times, twice on passes from QB Evan Jowers (So) who went 3-4 for 44 yards. Kirven ended up with 145 yds on 17 carries (8.53 av); Jaden Knowles (Jr) rushed for 151 yds on 16 carries (9.44 av) & 1 TD; Braelin Brown had 57 yd on 7 carries (8.4 av) & 2 TDs, E. Jowers had 38 yds on 2 carries; Malik Burgess 22 yds on 1 carry and David Roper 6 yds on 1 carry plus 11 receiving yards on 1 catch.

61 tackles, 9 for losses, 6 sacks …
 
On defense the Cats recorded 61 tackles. Baron Browning (Sr) and Micheal Landers (Sr) led with 7 tackles each followed by Kevin Tiero (Jr) and Devan Mason (Jr) with 6 each. Braelin Brown (Jr) and Avion Jenkins (Jr) had 5 each with Kade Stephenson (So) and Larry Brooks (Jr) recording 4. Malik Burgess (Sr), Tre’ Davis (So), Stephone Jackson (Sr), Aaron Williams (Sr), Ector Rivera (Jr), and Josh Vaughn (Sr) all finished with 2 tackles.
 
Nine times Wilmer-Hutchins was throw for loss, twice by J. Vaughn and once each by Browning, Landers, Mason, Davis, Jackson, Gjemar Daniels (Sr) and Mayfield Hayes (Jr).
 
Six sacks were made by the Cats with 3 by A. Jenkins, 2 by D. Mason and 1 by B. Browning. Jakahri Stafford (Jr) recorded the game’s only interception.
 
The Cats lost one fumble but returned the favor with an interception. Kennedale was flagged 8 times for 80 yards and Wilmer- Hutchins was penalized 4 times for 29 yards.
 
Overall, for the MaxPreps #14 Wildcats, this was a good solid win that has to be a confident builder headed into next week?s area game against #10 Terrell (9-2). But, even in a runaway game, Kennedale still had problems with late hits and unsportmanslike conduct with three in one series on Friday night.

From this point on there will be no easy games and Kennedale will be in an underdog role, a role that Barrett likes. Kennedale will play Terrell Friday night at 7:30 p.m. playing at DeSoto High School.
