?Over 70,000 North Texas second graders participated in this year?s competition. Nicole earned the right to represent Kennedale when she won first place honors in district competition that included ten other 2nd grade students from Kennedale ISD in the final round. From Delaney Elementary, the students were Jaisa Navarre (runner-up), Owen Matthews, Amarisa Ogundare, and Auriana Smith. From Patterson Elementary, the students were Keira Parker, Kingston Carlock, Aleks Baker, Harlow Hoppes, Kaydee McAdams, and Rylan Munson.?

Nicole went on to the regional Reading Bee where she was one of just 40 second-grade readers from across the region selected for the contest. Nicole placed 6th in the finals. making her one of the highest scoring students.?

Nicole received a medal and plaque from Miss Texas for her accomplishments. Nicole will also be recognized at the January Kennedale ISD School Board meeting.

Kennedale ISD has participated in the North Texas Reading Bee for the past several years. Second grade students throughout the metroplex in private, public, and home schools are invited to participate in the annual Reading Bee.

Similar to the Spelling Bee, students are asked to read a series of passages that will be judged on fluency rate and accuracy, as well as comprehension of the passages read. The student with the best fluency rate, accuracy, and comprehension of the passages is chosen as the Reading Bee Champion. Students in the Reading Bee compete with passages up to a high school reading level.?

Reading coaches for the the students were Delaney Elementary teacher, Ashly Spencer, along with Patterson Elementary teachers, Deborah Hicks and Cheryl Burke.
