Citing a failed agreement with the City of Kennedale as the reason, she is busy filling out the schedule for the fall 2017 season.

The McMillan had closed the track permanently last October in an agreement with the City of Kennedale that also called for the adjacent Kennedale Speedway Park to close.

the city?s plan ?

The driving principle in the city?s long range development plan was simple ? build it and good things will happen for rest of the city. The southwest area, long undervalued on the property tax rolls, was zoned for residential development.

It was a key part of the city?s plan to spread out the cost of water and sewage for the city and to help cover the cost of upgrading the infrastructure in the older parts of Kennedale without having to turn to bonds or raise taxes. The residential development in that area would also help bring other things that residents in old town had called for such as a large food store, sit-down restaurants and more options for citizens in shopping along with professional and medical services that residents along Sublett and Little Road have ready access too. All that seems to be in question at least for the short term.

for the McMillans, it is immediate and personal ?

But with the McMillans, things were no longer long term. In their eyes, they had honored the agreement and had close the track. Developers had been lined-up, but when the Speedway continued to operate, the developers begin to back off. No one wanted to build houses that would not sell because they would be next to a racetrack.

So McMillan is telling the city what is fair for one is fair for both. If the Speedway was going to continue to operate, so were they. Because of a standing ?legacy? agreement with the city, she can not sell the racetrack to another to be operated as a racetrack. So, she either has to sit back and wait out the possible closing of the Speedpark and lose money or re-open for business.

?The track means a lot to me, and it means a lot to a lot of people. This is the Hielscher [her father] in me, but we?re going to open,? McMillan told Andrew Wolf of DragZine.
