Curbside recycling begins in Kennedale with a cost

The City of Kennedale has entered in the age of recycling with a new once a week pick-up service in conjunction with the current twice a week trash pick-up. {{more}}

It begins with the delivery of 65-gallon carts to all residences during the week of March 25-28, 2015 with the first pick-up scheduled for the following Wednesday, April 1 and will continue each week on Wednesday. The recycle bin should be be place on the curb along with any other trash by a recommended time of 7 a.m. each Wednesday.

Trash pick-up rates including recycling will increase to $12.79. This compares to Arlington at $13.08, Saginaw at $11.25, Burleson $19.20 and Fort Worth from $12.50 to $22.75 (depending on size of recycling container). The recycling cost is $3.60 added to the current rate of $8.60 plus taxes.

Progressive

Waste Solutions will be the company responsible for operating the “Single Stream Recycling Program”. The program allows all “recyclable items” to be mixed together in the same 65-gallon blue container.

RECYCLABLE ITEMS:

Paper – newspapers and inserts, magazines, catalogs, mail (including envelopes), phone books, greeting cards, white and colored office paper (including sticky notes, manila envelopes, file folders and paper ream wrappers), cardboard boxes, mail packaging, boxboard (thin cardboard containers like cereal boxes, shoe boxes and frozen food boxes)

 
Glass – bottles and jars of all colors
 
Metal – food containers made of aluminum, tin and steel, empty aerosol cans, metal jar lids
 
Plastics #1-5 & 7 – clear plastic bottles (water, soda and juice containers), colored plastic bottles (milk jugs, detergent bottles, margarine tubs and yogurt containers)
 
Recycle plastic containers with the recycling codes 1,2,3,4,5, and 7 only. Plastics bearing the code 6 are not accepted. Look for the easy-to-identify plastic recycling codes usually found on the underside of the bottle or packaging.

NON-RECYCLABLE ITEMS:
  • food waste/scraps,
  • plastic bags,
  • Styrofoam? packaging, packing peanuts,
  • wood,
  • grass clippings,
  • hazardous materials (i.e., electronics, batteries, paint, or chemicals),
  • window or plate glass and
  • large metal objects (i.e., small engines or lawnmower blades).
