The United Way of Tarrant County wants to “mobilizing the masses to make a bigger impact” and it has declared June 23rd, 2016 for a community-wide DAY OF ACTION.

The Agency has set up several volunteer options for anyone wishing to take personal action to help others.
 
With summer here and kids out of school it is a chance for them to give back in some way whether it is through United Way or other local charities.
 
The following are ways the United Way of Tarrant County has set up for the 23rd. They do ask that volunteers register by Tuesday of this week. But if this doesn’t work for you, contact other agencies, local churches or non-profits to see if there is something that you can do personally.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
 
Meals On Wheels (MOW) will kick off the United Way Day of Action with a presentation held at the United Way Tarrant County office, 1500 N. Main St., on June 23rd from 9-10am. MOW will host a presentation and tour of their new facility located at 5740 Airport Freeway during the following times: 11:00am, 1:00pm and 2:30pm (lunch provided at the 11am tour). mealsonwheels.org/
  • Volunteers will be able to assemble emergency and comfort kits at the MOW location at 5740 Airport Freeway.
  • A station will be set up in the United Way of Tarrant County Board room from 9-5pm for volunteers to write special cards for MOW veteran clients. MOW serves approximately 230 veterans.
The City of Arlington will host a beautification project at ?Tails and Trails Dog Park? located at 950 SE Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington 76018. The park is located in the same complex as the Arlington Animal Shelter.
  • The city will provide the mulch and tools needed to complete the project. www.naturallyfun.org/tails-n-trails-dog-park

MOW and United Way of Tarrant County will serve as drop-off locations from 9am-5pm for the following items identified by MOW:

  • Box fans (Airport Freeway drop off).
  • Small window air conditioning units ? 5,000 btu / 110 outlet plug (Airport Freeway drop off).
  • Shelf-stable foods for client emergency kits ? easy open containers and packages (Both locations).
  • Items for hygiene kits ? soap, shampoo, lotions, Kleenex, disposable razors, cotton balls, Q-Tips, antibacterial hand sanitizer, first aid antibiotic cream or other items (Both locations).
  • Items for comfort kits ? socks with rubber buttons or tread, slippers, stationery, nightlights, lap blankets, bath towels or other items (Both locations).
  • Small gift bags for kit assembly.
  • Wheelchairs and walkers ? the agency will accept both gently used (Airport Freeway drop off).
