Dickey?s BBQ coming to Kennedale

Craig Hughes, a real estate developer who has partnered with the Kennedale Economic Development Corporation to help re-develop Kennedale Town Center, told Kennedale Chamber members recently that some big changes were coming soon. {{more: [Read more]}}
 
At the monthly Kennedale Chamber luncheon at Life Fellowship Church last week, Hughes told the lunch crowd that they were ready to break ground on some long planned construction. The ground breaking should happen ?within the next thirty to forty-five days,? said Hughes.

He told the gathering of local business and community leaders they will be constructing two more buildings that have long been in the master plan for the Town Center project. He said that one of the buildings is already leased and that it would include Chicken Express and a new Dickey?s BBQ. The new Chicken Express and Dickey?s will be located along Kennedale Parkway but at the opposite end of where Chicken Express is now.
 
The existing Chicken Express building which was formerly a Dairy Queen, will be removed and an improved entrance to Town Center will be added. He said that he has commitments to fill the empty spots in the building that houses Subway.

Hughes explained to the group that his company bought out the developer who had started the project back in 2005. The original company developed the master plan, cleared the area and built one of the commercial building which houses Subway now. But, interest dropped along with the economy and the company was no longer in a position to market the development the way it should.
 
He said that his company is working on getting someone in the old builders? Surplus store, perhaps dividing up the space and focusing on something that would be family themed.
 
Urgent Care plans to re-open …
 
In a side conversation at the luncheon, Kennedale City Manager Bob Hart said that he had been told by the owners of the closed Urgent Care medical office located in the Town Center, that the closing was only temporary and that they planned to re-open once they were able to appropriately staff the clinic again. No definite date was given however.
