Last year (2013-14), 1028 students were tested in initial and random testing with six students testing positive. In 2012-13, 1005 students were tested with five testing positive. School officials see the testing program as a deterrent. Students are tested at the beginning of the year with random testing throughout the year. Testing positive can lead to suspension from all extracurricular activities as well as discipline as outlined in the student code of conduct handbook.

Any student may enroll in the drug screening program but only those students involved in extracurricular activities are required to participate.

Returning and new students:

All students who plan or will be participating in the following fall activities must be screened before the activity starts. This does include practices. Because of the numbers of students who will be participating, the activities have been divided into two separate dates.

  • Band, Cheer, Cross-Country, Dance/Drill Team, Volleyball
Tuesday, August 5 from 1:00-5:00 in the PAC

  • Football, Off-Campus Lunch for high school, Parking Permits for high school

Wednesday, August 6 from 1:00-5:00 in the PAC

New students to district or new to the sport or activity including incoming 7th graders

If you are new to Kennedale or you have never participated in one of the listed activities i.e. 6th grader last year, there is an informational meeting for the student and parent/guardian. This session is required before the drug screening can be conducted.

Two dates have been scheduled at the Kennedale ISD Media Center (behind Wildcat Stadium at Kennedale High School) for Tuesday August 5 and Wednesday August 6. The short informational session will run continuously from 1:00-5:00 on each of those days.

For those who are unable to attend these the drug screening or informational session, additional dates will be scheduled later.
