Emerald Hills to Host Event in Celebration of National Family History Month

Emerald Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Kennedale will host a special event in celebration of National Family History Month in October. {{more:Read more …}}
 
The Emerald Hills’ event on October 27 will focus on the community’s WWII and Vietnam veterans but will also celebrate any veteran’s service whether it was Korea, Grenada, Middle East or other overseas service as well as stateside.
 
The staff of Emerald Hills is also hoping to record some of the experiences of the veterans to share with the community at the event on Thursday, October 27 at 6:00 pm.
 
This will be a show and tell event where Emerald Hills is encouraging veterans and their family members to come, bring artifacts from their wartime experiences and have a night to honor them for the sacrifice they gave our country. Food and refreshments will be served that evening.
 
As the wartime generation declines Emerald Hills recognizes the need for families to hear the stories of their experiences. Often these stories haven’t been shared or retold to the younger family members and are at risk of being lost forever.
 
In conjunction with this event Emerald Hills Funeral Home will distribute “Have the Talk of a Lifetime Conversation.” These cards were created by NFDA with the support of the Funeral Service Foundation, to encourage families to share personal stories and talk about what matters most to family members long after the event concludes.

Emerald Hills Funeral Home is one of 15 funeral homes from across the country to celebrate National Family History Month as part of a special nationwide program curated by the Funeral Service Foundation and the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) that weaves together the importance of sharing and capturing family stores with the funeral profession?s Have the Talk of a Lifetime? public outreach initiative, which inspires families to talk about life and the things that matter most.

 
In 2001, Congress first passed a resolution introduced by Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who wrote, “It is only natural that we want to find out more about our ancestors, and what a better way to bring families closer together than by discovering more about the story of your own family?” Family history enthusiasts continue to celebrate National Family History Month every autumn.
