Etsel Walter Hunter, 95, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at his home. The family will gather at the family ranch in Talpa, TX followed by a graveside service 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26th at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, TX with Larry Gill officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. {{more}}
 
Etsel Walter Hunter was born September 28, 1919 in Merkel, TX to Walter and Minnie (Campbell) Hunter. His family came to Mulberry Canyon about 1892.

Etsel entered the Navy July 1940. He witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 and was a participant in the Battle of Midway June 6-9, 1944. Returning home July 1946, he began ranching in the Old French Pasture south of Tye which was owned by his grandfather Hunter. On September 4, 1947 he married Joy Nalley. They have one child, Carroll Wayne Hunter.

Etsel is survived by his wife, Joy Hunter of Kennedale; son, Wayne Hunter and wife Cathey and grandson, Chad of Mansfield; granddaughter, Vicky Hull and husband Bobby and great grandson, Ethan Wayne of Kennedale; brothers, Buddy Hunter of Merkel, Bobby Hunter of Eula; step-grandson, Bryan Bowers and wife Christi and their daughter, Rachel; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Deverle Hunter; grandparents John and Ada (Hutcheson) Campbell and Andrew Wesley and Louise (Matthis) Hunter.
