On Wednesday of last week at Kennedale High School, five seniors on the Lady Kat basketball team made known their college intentions. {{more: READ MORE …}}
 
Three committed to East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, one to Tarleton State University in Stephenville and one to Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.
 
KHS Lady Kats signing were:
  • Evie Whorley – Texas Wesleyan University ? the most honored Lady Kat, she was named District 7-4A Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore and District Co-MVP in her junior and senior seasons. In addition she was named All-Region, All-State, and Fort Worth Star-Telegram All-Area Super Team as both a junior and senior. This year she was named All-State by both the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC).
  • Lucy Benson ? Tarleton State University ? Lucy started for the past three seasons and spent the last two years as a team captain. She was a three-time first-team All-District selection and was the back-to-back District Defensive Player of the Year before earning Co-District MVP honors last season. She is also a two-time TABC All-Region selection and a back-to-back TGCA All-State honoree over the last two years.
  • Dajia Simmons– East Texas Baptist University – Daija won all-district honors the last two, earning the 6th Man of the Year in her junior year and 1st team honors this year. She was also selected to both the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Girls Coaching Association All-State Academic Team.
  • Payton Williams – East Texas Baptist University ? Payton won the 6th Man of the Year district superlative this year and was a 2nd team all-district player last year. She also made the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Academic Team in her senior year.
  • Kylie Embry – East Texas Baptist University ? She won all-district 1st team honors in her senior year along with being selected for the Bobby Miller Character Award two years running for her all-around combination of skill, determination and teamwork. She was also selected to both the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Girls Coaching Association All-State Academic Team.

?This is a great group of young ladies that have worked really hard to get the opportunities that they have. Their Lady Kat Basketball family is very proud of them, and we are excited to see them perform at the next level,? said Head Coach Doug Watson.
