Scott made an impression for North Texas as freshman, playing in multiple games last year. This year he will be starting as middle linebacker in the season opener against the Longhorns Saturday.

Wescott Eberts of SB*NATION described Scott this way, ??sophomore Fred Scott, a former low three-star prospect from Kennedale who was rated as a fullback by 247Sports coming out of high school.?
Also according to Eberts, Scott (5?11, 238lbs) faced some formidable competition from Anthony Wallace. Wallace (6?0, 235 lbs), who transferred to UNT from the University of Oregon this past year, was a four-star recruit from Dallas Skyline who didn?t make ?much of an impact for the Ducks and transfer after two seasons.?
Scott was a District 6-3A first team selection in 2012 for the Kennedale Wildcats. He had 86 tackles his senior year and also time as a running back scoring 8 touchdowns and gaining 557 yards. Scott was an academic All-State selection in his senior year of high school. He is the son of Fred and Vickie Scott.
The game will be played in Austin with a starting time of 8 p.m.
