Game was delayed because of weather conditions and will start again today,Saturday, at 2 p.m. at Castleberry.The #4 state ranked Kennedale Wildcats (7-0, 2-0) travel to River Oaks in Fort Worth to play the Castleberry Lions in a District 5-4A match-up Friday. For Kennedale, coming off at 69-0 win over Lake Worth, it is the final obstacle to the big game of the top two teams in the district, Kennedale and Alvarado (6-1, 2-0), next week. For the winless Lions, who were pounded by Alvarado 65-0 last week, it may seem like deja vu.
Castleberry has not been known for its football teams and this year’s winless record comes on the heels of a 1-9 record in 2014. The Lions were picked to finished 5th in the six team district just ahead of Diamond Hill. Castleberry will play Diamond Hill next week.Castleberry returned 5 starters on offense and 3 on defense this year. The Lions are primarily a running team, rushing for 1170 yards so far this season and passing for only 108 yards on 17 attempts. Only one other team in the district has fewer passing yards and that is Kennedale with just 80 yards but the Cats lead the district with 3502 yards in rushing. Castleberry?s strong suit is defense placing third in the district in allowing only 203 yards per game (dfwvarsity).Rain can do funny things with the ball but don’t expect an upset here.
