High School Program continues to expand career & curriculum offerings

KHS Principal Justin Marchel told the Kennedale Board of Trustees last week that the high school had a good start with the enrollment at 1008. This was down from last year at this time but he expects that to increase in September. {{more: Read more …}}
 
CTE offerings expand ?

Marchel reported that the high school program continues to expand with the addition of a new career and technology teacher. Career and Technical Education programs (CTE) offer a sequence of courses that provides students the academic, technical knowledge and skills needed in fields of interest and provides students a chance to earn basic certifications along the way.

High School offers clusters (classes) built around career fields in A/V Technology & Communication; Business; Education & Training; Health Science; Human Services; and Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM).

 
More accepting the challenge of duel credit ?
 

Marchel also said that he was proud that there were 162 duel credit courses being taking by multiple students this fall semester. The program has really taken off in the last several years and while it isn?t for everyone, more students are seeing the advantages of taking the classes.

 
These courses allow high school juniors or seniors to enroll in a college course and at the same time earn both college credit and high school credit. It offers the student a chance to save thousands of dollars by eliminating the need to take basic college courses.
 
Kennedale has an agreement with Tarrant Community College to coordinate the program. College courses offered for dual credit may be taught at the college campus or the high school campus by credentialed instructors; that is, instructors must be qualified according to criteria established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Courses offered for dual credit include the same content and rigor as courses taught to other college students, utilizing the same instructors, curriculum and policies.
 

Record number of academic recognitions ?

 

In other news for the high school, last year was a record year for the number of students earning All-State Academic honors including two sports teams that earned national recognitions for academic performance as a team ? the Wildcat Varsity Baseball team and the Lady Kat Volleyball team.
